The High Road Schools are a Maryland State Department of Education approved, Intensity V, Type 1 Special Education Program for serious emotionally disturbed children, students with specific learning disabilities, and children with Autism.

To enable your student with the most of learning opportunities, our staff includes certified therapist and other professionals ready to provide the support services each student may need.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPY

Language development play a decisive role in how a child learn to think, act and solve problems. For that reason, High Road starts with a coordinated and individualized speech program to mazimize each eligible student's speech and language development.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

OT when  prescribed helps students with sensory, perceptual and motor problems better meet the daily demands of their environment. Our registered occupational therapists use neurodevelopmental treatment activities and sensory integration exercises as the primary modes of treatment.

COUNSELING AND BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTION

School counselin is provided as a mandated related service or at parant/teacher request. This is educational supporting counseling with the primary focus of helping the student to develop age-appropriate social and emotional skills especially those that pertain to improving classroom functioning. The goal of group counseling include social, emotional and recreational skill training as well as self-esteem building and drug/alcohol education. All staff are trained in crisis-intervention and behavior management programs, with the goals of minimizing the reliance on supportive counseling and maximizing feelings of personal efficacy and skills of self-management.

SOCIAL SKILLS

Becoming an active participant in community, family and social affairs is a goal we have for all our students at High Road. Our Social Skills program uses activity-based lessons to teach such as cooperation, how to accept criticism from a superior, conflict resolution, how to make responsible choices, how to overcome "groupthink" and resist peer pressure. The supportive environment at High Road provides students with a solid foundation, paving the way for a successful transition into the community life.
